Job Description: Network VoIP Technician
Position Overview:
The Network VoIP Technician is responsible for managing and maintaining the organization's Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) network infrastructure. This includes configuring, installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining the VoIP systems and related network equipment. The Network VoIP Technician will collaborate with the IT team to ensure seamless communication and provide technical support to end-users.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, configure, and maintain VoIP systems, hardware, and software components.
- Troubleshoot and resolve network connectivity, quality, and performance issues related to the VoIP infrastructure.
- Monitor, analyze, and optimize VoIP network performance, ensuring high availability and reliability.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate VoIP systems with existing network infrastructure.
- Develop and implement VoIP security measures to protect against unauthorized access and potential threats.
- Perform regular maintenance and upgrades of VoIP systems to ensure optimal functionality.
- Document and maintain detailed network diagrams, configurations, and standard operating procedures.
- Provide end-user support for VoIP-related issues, including training and troubleshooting.
- Stay up to date with industry trends and emerging technologies related to VoIP systems and network engineering.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Minimum of X years of experience in network engineering, with a focus on VoIP systems.
- Solid understanding of VoIP protocols, standards, and technologies, such as SIP, H.323, RTP, and CODECs.
- Proficient in configuring and troubleshooting VoIP gateways, session border controllers (SBCs), and IP-PBX systems.
- Strong knowledge of LAN/WAN networking principles, TCP/IP, routing, and switching.
- Experience with network monitoring and troubleshooting tools, such as Wireshark, SolarWinds, or similar.
- Familiarity with network security principles, including firewalls, VPNs, and intrusion detection systems (IDS).
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills to identify and resolve complex network issues.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Proven organizational and time management skills to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
- Industry certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, or VoIP-specific certifications are highly desirable.
